As most of you know, I was looking to do boudoir photos as a gift for my husband for our anniversary. I sent out an email asking for recommendations a few months back and I received some great choices. This was a tough decision, because not only did I have limited funds, I also wanted someone reputable and I suppose most important, very talented. Although at my price point I was willing to pay, most of the recommendations I received were out of my range.
Who knew photographers could be so expensive? Several of the boudoir photographers I contacted were in the $10,000+ range! Wow! I didn’t find their photos any better than the ones in the $5,000+ range. The photos on most sites looked pretty similar to me. Poses were similar too. Maybe an expert could tell the difference, but I could not. I was a little nervous because my budget was $3,000. I took out a credit card with a $3,000 limit so my husband wouldn’t see the transaction on our bank account. That’s all I could get approved for so that was going to be my budget.
Two of you ladies (Becki and Sarah) recommended a photographer over in Orlando. His name is Michael Jones and he owns Sin Boudoir. I have to say that when I saw the name Michael Jones, I was a little apprehensive. I hadn’t even thought about a male boudoir photographer. On so many boudoir websites, I kept seeing “all female team” so I figured that was the norm. Female = safe, right?
After doing some research, I found out there are indeed several male photographers that specialize in boudoir photography. Not only that, some of the best in the world are men. Who knew?
I went to the Sin Boudoir website and wow is all I can say! After looking at like a hundred boudoir photographers all over Florida, this one was different. There was just a completely different style here that other boudoir photographers just can’t seem to capture. When you see boudoir photos, you often see soft, playful, and girly poses that us women probably think are “pretty.” But if you look at boudoir photos from the eyes of a man, they probably consider them basic. Men look at women through different eyes. Most boudoir photographers are women, so the boudoir photos they create tend to display emotion and feeling. Men don’t think that way. Men are visual creatures, and the standard boudoir photos aren’t going to arouse them.
So, it kind of clicked for me. If I wanted photos that would capture my man’s attention, I needed a man boudoir photographer. Oh, the best part, is that since it’s harder for these male boudoir photographers to get clients, their prices are lower. I think that’s kind of sad for these guys that do such a great job, they have to reduce their prices just to entice enough women to make a living.
I also think it’s messed up that all the women photographers advertise they are “all female teams” which makes it look like using a man would be “weird” or “dangerous.” That’s simply not true. Why would a guy start a legit business, then ruin it by doing something inappropriate? So, let’s be more open minded. Would you choose a less qualified doctor because she was female, or go with the best doctor available even if it was a man? I choose to use the best no matter their gender.
And thankfully my husband isn’t a control freak. He’s not jealous. I have guy friends and he’s never acted crazy about any of them. So I knew he wouldn’t be uncomfortable with me using a male boudoir photographer. Frankly, he wouldn’t be my husband if I had to worry about that kind of jealousy anyway. When it comes to “professional” anything, be it doctors or photographers, I don’t need to ask his permission or worry about his reaction.

Now, back to Sin Boudoir. The portfolio was super sexy. Way hotter than any other website I looked at. Then I went to the pricing page and couldn’t believe how affordable it was. Like, UNDER my budget affordable. No wonder Sin Boudoir has so many 5 star reviews on google. For what you get, Sin Boudoir just can’t be beat.
I booked my session, paying a small deposit. When the date finally came, I did my hair, got my makeup done, and met Michael at the chosen location. In my case, we used a beautiful resort suite. I did a variety of poses, several lingerie changes and in the end, decided to do some tasteful nudes.
Michael was very professional. I found him to be highly intelligent. He was very knowledgeable about photography, cameras. lighting and poses. He was also super funny. We had such a good time. At no point did I feel weird or uncomfortable. Michael has the perfect personality to work with women with no clothes on.
I got the photos back about a week later. Ladies, let me tell you, they were HOT! They came out WAY better than I expected. Here are a few of the photos that I feel comfortable sharing.
