How Much is TOO Much!

Hello! I realize this post might not be my most popular- but sometimes I just have something on my mind and I just need to say it and be done with it- this is one of those times! First, I realize I do not have little boys, I am not a child psychologist and I realize that every child is different and every parent is different- and NO ONE aside from God Himself is perfect. I am horribly flawed as a human and mother and aside from God's grace I am a MESS! I just have some thoughts ... I don't know the right answer but I think it is a conversation worth having! Feel free to let me know what you think!

When my girls watch movies or TV shows, they have a way of acting out the show or the character for days or weeks to come. When we watch the Fresh Beat Band Ellie is usually found Beatboxing for weeks or sometimes she chooses to be Kiki and uses anything in sight to play a guitar. Same goes for Doc McStuffins, my girls are suddenly doctors to every toy in the home! It is because of this that I have a general rule, if I do not want my children to act like "them" we do not watch "them". My girls love to dress up like the Disney Princesses (see photo- that is a typical day) but have never actually seen most of the movies- only Cinderella and a bit on Snow White- they are just not ready for a lot of the scary parts in the movies- they have many years to watch those. I realize that Sponge Bob Square Pants is relatively harmless, same as My Little Pony, Phineas and Ferb and that naughty Caillou. That being said, we do not watch those shows, simply because I do not want my girls acting like those characters or talking like them. My girls are very whiny when they watch Caillou- much like the character they watch. You get the idea! So it has just BLOWN my mind hearing about parents who allow their children to go see the new Batman movie. First of all, I am sickened and heartbroken for what happened in Colorado. Innocent lives were taken by a sick person who was clearly influenced by the actual Dark Knight, Satan himself. (This is a great article about that) I just have to wonder, how young was James Eagan Holmes when he saw his first violent movie? The movies these days are SO real, especially to young children who do not have the brain "maturity" to handle the content. I think we are desensitizing our children to death- the lines of reality and movies or TV are becoming so blurred with technology and "reality" TV. I wonder if our children will even know true "reality"? The fact that Holmes even thought he was a character in the movie- makes me know that we are going to have a real problem on our hands if we do not start guarding our children's minds and making sure they are watching appropriate material. If it is PG-13, why was a 7-year-old in a 12am showing in the first place? I am not just talking Colorado, I know many MUCH younger children who have gone to that movie and others equally as violent. (Don't get me started on the "sexual" content) Mark 12:30 says to Love the Lord with our minds- It is our job as parents to guard our children's minds and to teach them to be responsible for their minds and what they fill them with. Romans 12:12 says " Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will." Why are we allowing our children to watch these things and not protecting them from this violence? I wonder if we should be teaching them self-control and to set their minds on things above instead of "conforming to the pattern of this world"? It is too bad that Hollywood isn't making super hero movies that are fun and exciting and innocent- so our children can enjoy, dress up and desire to be heroes in a way that does not compromise their innocence. My girls are just as happy watching Praise Baby or Meet the Phonics as they are watching anything else. If they do not have the option of something more "mature" they will still enjoy watching movies..and I can still sneak a shower in while they are watching! Thanks for letting me get that off my chest! Isn't it fun to have the Olympics on, a fun channel change for the next few weeks!

Romans 12 (Message) 1-2 "So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."

Sniff Sniff- The Kindergarten Date!

I have been staring down the barrel to KINDERGARTEN for a few months now- and since it is less than 1 month away, I decided it was time to start preparing Ellie to go (and preparing myself as well!) I scheduled our babysitter to come today, Ellie got to choose "fancy" outfits for us to wear and we hit the town at 10am!

First Stop...Unsweet Iced Green Tea (she had extra water) from Starbucks

Next up...H&M for some School Clothing- her favorite item of the day was the hot pink purse (totally not school related)!

Since we were on the Plaza, close to Daddy's work- we grabbed some mexican food with him (I had envisioned a tea room- she and daddy wanted chips and salsa!)

We dropped daddy off and headed to the mall- when she first went to Preschool I said I was not going to purchase all of the "character" stuff- she had a darling owl backpack and it had nothing to do with Disney brainwashing my child to buy their merchandise...well, now that she has been given the choice...
Thats right...Cinderella will be heading to school with us every day!

Since it was 110 degrees today..we needed a little ice cream break- so we hit Glace- our favorite spot!

From there we headed to Standard Style and grabbed a couple of "necessities" and we ran out of time...without one pencil! We went home to get the other girls and headed to Target to quickly get all of the actual school supplies! I didn't expect to get so emotional about this school thing- but I did! I just can't believe that this precious gift, my firstborn daughter, whom I have spent every day with for the past 5 years- is starting school and will be out of my home 5 days a week for the foreseeable future! I have to share influence with complete strangers at school every single day- I am just not prepared! I am so excited to see what God has planned for her and to watch her spread her wings- but I would really rather lock her up in my home for the rest of her life and not allow her to experience any heart-ache, loneliness, fear, rejection, cruelty, etc.. I have a feeling God will teach me as much as He will teach her! One thing is for sure- school or no school...we will keep having date days and she will never wonder one second if her mama adores her..I am going to be by her side every step of the way!
Next Chapter...Coming SOON!

Summer Update!

I feel like this summer is FLYING by- I have been so busy that we rarely get to just hang- which is a bummer- but all blessings! I get to help a family friend with their wedding, which is fun to dabble back in the event planner side of me. I am blessed to get to work at home for an awesome company called Square One Interiors. Finally, I am doing this.......

The Lord blessed us with a home in June and it needs LOTS of attention! I will say...all of my pinterest dreams are coming true- but it takes a lot of work and time to redo a house! But we have made progress, here is the kitchen SO FAR...

Isn't it exciting! I will show you more as it gets finished- I still can't believe we get to live in this home- just know that after three years of praying for a home- the LORD far exceeded any dream or prayer- He is SO good!
Moving on...
Today I had a million things to do- or probably more than a million- however I made the decision to take the morning off and take the girls swimming and lunching- best decision ever! I might be up until 2am..but worth it! (yes I am wasting time blogging too- oh well!)
The girls started the summer hating swim lessons and now they can't get enough swimming- I can't get them out of the pool!

Finally, this sweet girl is 8 months old next week and has never taken a bottle- it is not an option for her! She does however LOVE the straw- go figure!

There you go- a little update! Back to life!! :)

It's Delightful: Instagram

Ok- I have to admit I was avoiding "Instagram" I thought, not one more things where I have to have "followers". I do believe that we are living in a society where we could easily become self-obsessed- just trying to create an image at all times on all types of social media! However- my girlfriends were telling me how fun Instagram is, so naturally I needed to check it out! It really is fun, I think people feel free to just post away- otherwise it gets boring if no one is adding pictures! So...if you are an instagrammer, let me know- it is a fun way to stay in touch! Of course...one more thing to suck time...Oh Well!

It's Delightful: B.B Cream

I never thought I would say this...but I found something I like more than my Dior Tinted Moisturizer! The best part is...you can get this yummy stuff at a drugstore! It is Garnier Skin Renewal B.B. Cream! I previously discussed B.B Cream here {LINK}, they really do everything (prime, brighten, anti-aging, even skin tone, etc.)! This is the best one I have tried and I love the price ($10ish for a big bottle)! If you are looking for light summer coverage- this is good stuff to try- (it is not your answer for a lot of coverage). I also love that it has SPF 15! Ok- that is my delightful item for today!

It's Delightful: TV to Record

For those of you who are mom's of all boys or non-TV watching babies- ignore today! For those of us who have little girls who love American Girl- this is a friendly reminder to record the American Girl movie which is showing on NBC this saturday at 7pm CST. My friend Amy was kind enough to remind me- so I am reminding you! Happy Wednesday!

It's Delightful: Summer Reading

I just finished the final Baxter book by Karen Kinsgbury- If you haven't read her books- start with the redemption series and go from there- so good! You can read one of her books in about 4- 5 hours- so perfect for reading with kids- no need to really use your brain a ton, just be entertained! They are better than any soap! Karen is done with the Baxters and her last book was just released, it is called "Coming Home"- it is great...not how I wanted it to go down...but delightful as usual!

My New Idea: It's Delightful!

Since I can't seem to focus on the blog lately- but I still want to "blog"- I have decided that I am going to just randomly share one thing per *day (lets face it, it will probably be a couple times a week not daily!) that I am excited about! I am sure some will be more exciting to you than others- but some of you will be excited with me! ok...first one coming soon- mind you I am not a photographer, just a girl with an iPhone! Xo
